Remembering Emily – 6 Years
September 8, 2025 was six years since we held our daughter’s 2.1-pound body for the first and only times. Once she was wrapped up in a hospital baby blanket and placed in the cold bassinet, her body lay mostly untouched until we left and the coroner prepared her body for her future memorial service. Matt hugged her sadly and I kissed her head tenderly, just as I would have if she had still been with us.
Emily At Six Years
At six years old, I think Emily would be having a lot of fun with dressing up and playing in the dirt alike. She would have long, flowing blond hair and be in the middle of 1st grade, two grades behind her older brother.
With her two younger siblings, she would run around the house and play hide and seek. Probably, she would push them around on the ride-on toys and teach them how to put puzzles together. She would be the biggest little lady in our family and absolutely love to be alive here on earth.
Remembering Emily Activities
These are some of the ways I have honored and celebrated Emily’s life this year.
Chocolate Chip Cookie Cake
On Emily’s behalf, we enjoyed a pan cookie with “EMILY” spelled in chocolate chips. It was delicious and I’m sure she would have agreed if she could have eaten some.

“Emily Lives” on Little Girl Rainbow Cross Stitch Pattern
The weekend before Emily’s birthday this year, I completed the first stitches in the “Rainbow bubble girl” cross stitch pattern. I had forgotten that the rainbow in the design does not include a purple color band, so I took some time to add it to the design guide. In the guide, the letter “R” represents the purple hearts on the tree, and accordingly I wrote many “R” characters to complete the purple band of the rainbow.
Also, I will add the words “EMILY LIVES” in the space between the bubbles and the tree. It will serve as a reminder to our family that although she is not here, although she is not alive in her body, she is alive in Heaven with our Lord Jesus.
Annual Reading of 2 Corinthians 9
I took Peter and Cherie to Emily’s grave for the annual reading of 2 Corinthians 9. Although Peter was not very happy about it, I am glad I was able to get a picture of both him and Cherie there. We also brought the Molly bear which represents what little treasures we know about her life.

6 Years of Love to Emily
As you know, Emily, we love and miss you. Now we are 6 years closer to meeting you in heaven and we thank the Lord for that! Until then, we fix our eyes and our hearts on Jesus, who is always worthy of our trust.
